Without lifetime learning, you are not going to get far in our rapidly changing world. You are not going to thrive based solely on what you already know. If you want to progress in life, you need to go beyond your formal education. You need to go beyond what you learn on the job. You need to go further than your parents. If you want to be relevant 20 years from now, you must never stop reading, studying, and challenging yourself.
To function effectively in our radically changing future, you will need a variety of competing mental models through which to view the world. It's no longer enough to know just one subject, like business or computer science. You will need to understand something about human psychology, biology, history, physics and art.
Creative thinking will be increasingly valued as machines take over all the routine decision making roles in our lives. AI and robots will dominate the simpler tasks. If you can't creatively solve problems, you will gradually become obsolete. So open up your mind to literature, science, philosophy and other subjects, and learn as much as you can every day.
Only by doing this will you be capable of looking into the future and tackling hard problems. Only by doing this can you understand the world from multiple points of view and develop novel approaches to it. Only by doing this can you have a real impact on the world. Only by doing this can you hope to create value in a world run by of ever smarter machines.
